Agenda item 1
Bridging Socioeconomic Gaps in Access to Essential Medicines and Medical Treatments
Is there anything more valuable than one’s health and well-being? Medicine is a branch of science that has been established as a natural response to humankind’s call for help, and pharmaceutical drugs are the therapeutic tools used to treat patients in need. However, is everything as simple as it sounds? A medicine can be scientifically proven and freely circulating in the market, yet remain out of reach. The inability to reach certain therapeutic drugs may be caused by economic hardship as well as regional differences from where it is produced to where it is to be sent, or even the lack of ability to strengthen the supply chain. The inability to access certain essential medicines would surely cause catastrophic outcomes.
By discussing the ways to ensure equitable global access to essential medicines and medical treatments, you will be bridging the gap between communities and managing to discuss ways to put a stop to this inequity. It is not about who receives medical care, but it is about making medicine and the pharmaceutical industry equal. Do not forget, you are expected to stand for the people in need of healing.
