Advancing Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation Strategies to Address Extreme Heat and Strengthen Community Resilience
A heatwave does not need to destroy a building to become a disaster. As of today, people all around the globe experience the effects of climate change, but its criticality is yet to be understood. Each heatwave places communities at risk by stressing energy systems, polluting food and agriculture and damaging infrastructure and health. The lack of visual and immediate destruction causes people to often forget its vital outcomes. Considering the advancement of climate change, the necessity to establish resilience, monitoring systems and risk reduction tools has become one of the most critical approaches.
“Strengthening Global Resilience to Extreme Heat Induced by Climate Change” calls upon delegates to examine the varying methods followed by governments and international organizations while finding ways to enhance early-warning systems and heat action plans with regard to urban planning and emergency preparedness. You are expected to focus on how countries can be prepared for and withstand extreme heat before it turns into a full-blown humanitarian and economic crisis. How resilient can you be against an unavoidable threat?
